Introducing Chicken Nugget, the second horse in the 19 Over 19 Project. Chicken Nugget’s journey is nothing short of remarkable, as he transforms from a horse in dire straits to a beacon of hope and healing. Rescued from a devastating case of starvation in Artesia, Chicken Nugget arrived at the barn severely underweight and with lameness in two of his feet. But what truly sets him apart is the remarkable soul that resides within him.
Despite his past as a cow horse with rough treatment, Chicken Nugget’s spirit remained unbroken, his heart radiating with kindness. Now, in his golden years at 25, he’s relishing life and serving as an invaluable mentor for young equestrians, instilling in them the confidence to work with and be around horses.
But Chicken Nugget’s role transcends that of a riding companion. He’s a key player in the barn’s lesson program, offering solace and healing to individuals who have endured hardships throughout their lives. His gentle eyes and soft mannerisms create a safe space for those in need, guiding them on a path towards recovery and resilience.
For the past year, Chicken Nugget has found his forever home with Talia at Enchanted Equestrian Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Their bond is a testament to the unbreakable connection between humans and animals. Talia fondly describes Nugget as the “peanut butter to my jelly,” her unwavering companion, and her everything.
Through their time together, Chicken Nugget’s transformation from a horse that never should have suffered to a symbol of healing and hope has been nothing short of extraordinary. His journey reaffirms the power of compassion, resilience, and the profound impact horses can have in transforming lives. Chicken Nugget stands as a shining example of the healing potential found in the unlikeliest of places.
