It’s that time! You are still riding your high from the session of a lifetime and it’s time for you Gallery Reveal. You’re super excited about ordering prints…but what do all of these numbers mean? 8×10 sounds good, you know how big that is. But 11×14? 30×20? It sounds like a foreign language, doesn’t it?
Worry not! Part of the reason why I give my clients homework (photographing walls that they want to display their photos on) is so that I can upload it to the software that I use during the Gallery Reveal. From there, I can place photos and we can have a blast decorating it with the most beautiful portraits of them and their horse.
But what do the numbers mean? Look at the image below with a sad, lonely 8×10 image:
It doesn’t take up a lot of space at all, does it? 24×16 sounds huge, doesn’t it? But it just doesn’t work for this wall.
My favorite thing to do is group photos together, usually in sets of 3. The grouping looks great, especially if you have family members involved in your session, or multiple horses. Below, I grouped a pair of 20×30 images with a 45×30. These larger pieces are what I like to call statement pieces because they’re so visually striking.
Here is another way that I love to display statement sized pieces. These flow beautifully together.
If you still want petite prints, I love combining them in a large group so that the photographs still take up a large amount of visual space.
As you can see with printing, size matters. It’s my goal to help you figure out what works best for you and your home. It’s one of my favorite things about gallery reveals (after seeing my client’s reactions to seeing their photos for the first time, of course)!
You don’t want photos that are too big or too small. The program that I use lets us figure out what size and grouping would look absolutely stunning on your walls.
