Rodeo Photography Etiquette

February 5, 2022

Rodeo season is around the corner and now is a good time to refresh on rodeo photography etiquette.

Under copyright law, photographers own the images that they create.  We own that copyright for our life plus 70 years after our passing.

The best compliment you can give to your photographer is to purchase your photographs.  We don’t get paid to show up to your rodeo – sometimes we have to pay to be there.  The money we make is through the purchase of photos.

Web/social media-sized images are for personal use only.  They contain a small watermark generally off to the side.  You don’t have to tag your photographer, although it is very much appreciated.  These can be shared with family members and posted on social media.  It makes us happy to see you buy our photos and use them as profile pictures!

Please don’t crop or otherwise edit our photos. It’s a misrepresentation of our work.

If you’re interested in prints, you can purchase them through your gallery.  Interested in a custom size or material not offered in the gallery?  Send me an email at kristina@truluckphoto.com and we can work something out!

Hi-resolution images are more expensive, but they come with more benefits.  These come with the ability to print small prints and can be used for advertising purposes.  They do not have a watermark on them.

If you steal an image through screenshotting or sharing without purchasing, you are subject to an invoice of $150.  If it is not paid within 30 days, you will be blacklisted from my services and I will not photograph your run.

If you have any questions about your rodeo photos or copyright, I’m always open to chat.  I used to teach copyright for the U.S. Army basic still photography course and have worked with attorneys with copyright violations in the past.  I love nerding out about it.

Here’s to successful runs in 2022!

Let's Work Together

I create images that people will love for a lifetime, transforming fleeting moments into enduring works of art. It's not just about taking digital photographs to save on a phone and forget; it's about crafting pieces that capture the essence of the moment, evoking emotion and joy every time they are viewed.
